A Message From Coach Rome

The first month of college football is in the books and the first month of high school football is rapidly approaching. To all of our PX alums and current student athletes, continue to display great character on and off the field, excel in all of your academics, work hard on the practice field and in the training room, and play SMART, FAST, and PHYSICAL on game day. Because wherever we are, we are the PRIME XAMPLE. Remember that our character is who and what we are and it is best displayed when no one is watching. At PX, we set the standard.

Congratulations Jordan Gilbert, PX Class of 2018

I want to congratulate Jordan Gilbert of Gonzaga High School on his first high school game action yesterday in the game against Georgetown Prep. I spoke with him briefly after the game and here's what he had to say……

RM: How did it feel riding on the bus to the game?

JG:  I was nervous and excited.

RM:  Once you where on the field, what did you think about?

JG:  I was just ready to go. I was really excited that all the nervousness was gone.

RM:  What were you thinking after the first play?

JG:  I just said to myself that I can play on this level.  From then on, I just applied all the things I've
       worked on with PrimeXample.

I'd say Jordan had a pretty good first outing. His stats against Georgetown Prep were 3 pass break-ups, 3 tackles on offense and defense, and 1 reception for 3 yards. Great job and keep up the good work.

Special Thanks to PrimeXample's Coach Troy Vincent Sr.

Where to start…..I want to personally give a special thanks to Coach Troy who has selflessly given his time and dedication to PX to help shape the lives of young men in the areas of personal growth development, academic achievement, character, integrity, community, faith, as well as improving on field player technique. Most importantly, Coach Troy has helped countless young men over the last 3 years win in the game of life. This recognition is important to the entire PX family since these tasks were completed all while being a devoted husband, father, Christian, and the current Executive Vice President of NFL Operations. Not to mention, Coach Troy was fortunate enough to have been a first round draft selection in 1992, followed by an extremely successful Hall of Fame career with the Philadelphia Eagles, the Buffalo Bills, the Miami Dolphins, and the Washington Redskins. Stay golden and thank you for your continued commitment to impacting the lives of young men.

Q & A with PX's OSU Commit Tyler Green

I sat down with Tyler Green who is a participant of PX's Class of 2015 and has also committed to the Ohio State University. I wanted to share some brief insight from him about his valuation of what he has learned from PX Skills Academy as an athlete and a student.

Tyler Green, PX Class of 2015
Q:  How does it feel to be the 1st player ever to come through PX to have the oppurtunity to   play for The Ohio State University?

A:  I
t feels great! To know that I have a group of men in this PX family who support me in all I do is amazing. I plan on going into OSU a part of that PX family and making Coach Rome proud.

Q:  What important onfield lesson have you learned with PX that you've been able to apply off the field?

A:  Onfield lessons that I have brought to the field after learning from PX are urgency! I've never had a coach push me so hard on that. Pushing that extra 5 or 10 yards instead of coasting might be the difference between a pick 6 or a 5 yard gain for the WR.

Q:  How much fun is it to work at such a fast uptempo pace at PX?

A:  Working uptempo at PX brings me right back to urgency. I love it!! Coach Rome is always after you even if you're on the other side of the field. He doesn't care who you are or how many stars you have. It gets you ready for those 4th quarters tied games when you need to make a play for your team.

Q:  What do coach Rome & Troy mean when they tell players to play with urgency?

A:  Reading the last question makes me laugh because of the last word that I've been talking about, but they mean getting after every rep like your life is on the line. Playing full speed from the time you step on and off the field is critical. And coach Rome and Coach Troy are the last to let you slack or you'll be out there all day!

Thanks so much Tyler for taking the taking the time to talk with me. We are so proud of you for being the first PX participant to attend the Ohio State University. Keep working hard on and off the field. Love you man!

Rivals Interview with Coach Rome about PrimeExample's Isaiah Davis

While many Maryland fans may feel that they know latest Terps commit Isaiah Davis better than most in the Class of 2015, very few know the Alexandria, Va. native as well as PrimeXample owner Roman Morris.

Over the past eight years, both Morris and close friend Troy Vincent Sr. have been working with the best of the best in the Baltimore/Washington D.C. region. After training Isaiah's brother, current Maryland defensive back Sean Davis, Morris has now been working with Isaiah for the past three years, and he's made it clear that the Terps are getting a special young man, both on and off the field.

Isaiah Davis works out with renowned football trainer Roman Morris.
"He comes from an incredible family," Morris said. "Mom and dad are very high character people. They really care about family values, good morales. They're old school.

"They believe in education. They believe in character and respecting others and that's really come out in both Isaiah and Sean. They both have real leadership qualities because of their parents. That's one thing that's always stood out to me."

At PrimeXample, both Morris and Vincent focus mainly on defensive backs, but they've branched out over the years to help train athletes in other positions as well. With Davis - who's been working with Morris every Saturday in the summer for the past few years, as well as other times throughout the spring and winter - their primary goal was to make Davis the best player possible when it comes to playing space.

"I think one of his best assets is his ability to play in space," said Morris. "For the last three years, we've trained him like a safety, but his body has just outgrown the position. But that's really helped him when it comes to playing in the pass game and reading the whole field.

"He's able to read things with his back to the quarterback. He's great at understanding zone drops and he's getting better at playing man-to-man. It's always tough for a linebacker when you have to lock up on someone, but he's improving there."

While Davis has spent a lot of time rushing off the edge in high school, he's expected to play either of the two inside linebacker positions in Brian Stewart's 3-4 scheme, meaning Davis is going to have to be a physical player. According to Morris, he doesn't think that'll be an issue.

"He's really explosive. He's a violent tackler. Isaiah definitely doesn't hold back at all when he's making the hit. But the thing I like the most is that he's just a smart guy. I can't stress enough. He's very, very, very coachable and that's one of the most important things.

"So, no matter where they want to stick him at, he'll be fine because he understands how important coaching is."

Now, with St. Stephens & St. Agnes' season just weeks away, Davis will be focused on his team for the foreseeable future. However, once that wraps up, Morris expects to be working with Davis again this upcoming winter and spring, and that's when he'd like to take Davis' linebacker skills to the next level.

"We're really trying to turn him into a complete linebacker, so the next thing we really want to get him doing is training with a good friend of ours, Khary Campbell, who used to play with the Redskins. We want to get him used to really playing downhill because playing in space is what we think is his strength. We've been able to work with him on that for awhile now, so we want to get him playing downhill more and also working on his eye discipline.

"We want to get him focused on attacking the ball carriers' hip and keeping with the fundamentals. Also, we'll probably work with his hand placement, that kind of stuff. He already has the solid foundation that you're looking for, but getting him to work with Khary should just help him even more by the time he gets to Maryland."
